GoPro's new HEROcast

When I bought my first GoPro 2 years ago, I immediately fell in love with the versatility and field-of-view of GoPro cameras. I always thought how epic it would be if you were able to stream the video to a live broadcasting. Launched in mid-2015, it seems dreams have finally become a reality with the GoPro HEROCast.

The GoPro HEROCast has just become the smallest and lightest professional live-broadcast transmitter on the market. The add-on accessory connects to any GoPro HERO 4 or previous generation camera. Smaller, lighter, more cost-effective and 50% more power-efficient than any other wireless broadcast solution on the market, HEROCast is ideal for sports, concerts and all of the events you cover.

What classifies as professional? For starters, the two GoPro attachments can live stream in high definition in 1080p and 720p resolution at 60 frames per second. The two transmitters also use H.264 encoding and have very low-latency for smooth video streaming.

The HEROCast has already been tested at The X-Games and generated an unbelievable response from the audience.

Obviously this won’t be something the average GoPro user will buy, at about $7500 per unit, but for the media team behind a big event, this product will open new possibilities for broadcasting the event .

As mentioned before, both these units cost about $7500 per unit, but compared to other live-broadcasting equipment, this is a bargain.

The HEROCast can be run from the camera’s battery for minimum weight, or from on external power source for longer recording periods.

The HEROCast is definitely an great addition to their already vast range of products and is something that will prove valuable to any broadcasting team, just a pity it is too expensive for the majority of GoPro users.

All the best!

Jacques
